Ten convictions for the unlawful use of a cell phone in prison were handed down by Judge Luciana Crisci of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere. The most severe sentences, two years and one year and four months, respectively, were handed down to Flavio Sagliocco, 41, of Lusciano, and Raffaele Crescenzo, 32, of Castel Volturno. The other eight defendants were sentenced to one year in prison each.

The investigations, conducted by the penitentiary police under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office Santa Maria Capua Vetere, revealed that, between April and May 2021, thousands of calls were made via a mobile phone in the city prison. The analysis of the phone records made it possible to trace the use of the device by some inmates, who would have contacted their families illegally.
