At the Circolo Canottieri Napoli, three boats dedicated to Giulia Tramontano, Santo Romano and Giulia Cecchettin were launched, as part of the “Let's row against violence” day. The event was attended by the victims' families and local authorities.
Present at the launch were, among others, Giancarlo Bracale, president of the Circolo, Davide Tizzano, president of the Italian Rowing Federation, and Emanuela Ferrante, sports councilor of the Municipality of Naples. “This is a beautiful message, also metaphorical, of support for our family,” commented Chiara Tramontano. “It is a boat that will sail on the waters, which means Giulia’s journey is not over. We are very happy and honored that one of these boats bears her name.”
Mena De Mare, mother of Santo Romano, also expressed her gratitude: “I hope that the institutions are committed to changing things and to having certainty of punishment, we are all here because now it is up to the institutions to give a signal.” Gino Cecchettin, although not present, sent a message of thanks for the boat dedicated to his daughter.
Giancarlo Bracale explained that the boats are dedicated to “these innocent victims treated cruelly by human wickedness.” He added that the Circolo Canottieri is committed to keeping the memory of the victims alive through sport and that the boats will be used by young athletes of the Canottieri Napoli in regional and national competitions.
