The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, on behalf of the Minister of the Interior, has ordered the appointment of a commission of inquiry to verify possible infiltration of organized crime in the municipal administration of Poggiomarino.
The decision comes after the arrest of Mayor Maurizio Falanga and Deputy Mayor Luigi Belcuore, accused of political-mafia vote-trading. According to the investigation, Falanga made a pact with Rosario Giugliano, a Camorra boss who later became a collaborator of justice.
After the confirmation of house arrest by the Court of Appeal of Naples, Phalanga he resigned, leading to the appointment of a prefectural commissioner with the functions of mayor and council.
The access commission, which will begin its work in the next few days, will have an initial mandate of three months, extendable only once for a similar period. The objective is to ascertain the possible presence of connections between the municipal administration and organized crime, with particular attention to the management of public activities.

It is a very serious fact what is happening in Poggiomarino, but it is important that there is a commission to verify the situation. I hope that this can lead to clarifications and perhaps improve the situation of the municipality.
