From December 9th to 15th, Naples will host the 17th edition of the OMOVIES Film Festival, a major international film festival. The event, conceived by iKen APS ETS, is partially funded by the Campania Region and its Film Commission. The festival includes a series of initiatives involving local schools and associations, including masterclasses, discussions, and screenings in the original language.
Masterclasses and special meetings
Among the festival's highlights are masterclasses led by directors Pappi Corsicato and Ivan Cotroneo, offering the opportunity to explore themes related to auteur filmmaking and seriality in the contemporary film market. The sessions will be held at the Cinema Modernissimo, in collaboration with the Film School of the Accademia Belle Arti, on December 11th and 13th.
Festivals and Awards
The OMOVIES 2024 Grand Gala will be held on December 15th at America Hall. During the gala, hosted by Priscilla, awards will be presented in various film categories, including the Omovies Abana Special Award "David Queer," inspired by a work by the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. The "Soap Power – Wash Away Prejudice" awards will also be presented to individuals who have distinguished themselves in the promotion of human rights.
Film Competition
In competition, 29 works from various nations, including Italy, Spain, and France, will be presented in various venues including the Sala del Capitolo of San Domenico Maggiore and the Cinema Modernissimo. The films, screened in their original language with Italian subtitles thanks to the inTRANSlation project, offer a diversified look at queer themes and gender issues. The festival, thanks to the artistic direction of Carlo Cremona and the support of local institutions, continues to represent an important point of reference for international cinema and the LGBTQ+ community.
