Torre Annunziata. The second-instance judges confirmed the convictions for the collapse of Rampa Nunziante in Torre Annunziata, in the province of Naples, which on 7 July 2017 caused the death of 8 people, including two children.
To the four sentences already issued in the first instance, a fifth is now added. As requested by the public prosecutor Dina Cassaniello, an 8-year prison sentence was imposed on Roberto Cuomo, the condominium administrator of the collapsed building and criminal lawyer, who had been acquitted in the first instance.
The acquittal of the crimes of culpable collapse and multiple culpable homicide was confirmed Massimiliano Lafranco, also a lawyer and de facto owner of the apartment where the incriminated works were carried out. The sentences for all the other defendants were confirmed, with small reductions due to the statute of limitations for construction crimes.
Gerardo Velotto, owner of the apartment where the work was underway, was sentenced to 12 years; Massimiliano Bonzani to 11 years; Aniello Manzo to 10 years; and Pasquale Cosenza, foreman, to 9 years.
