“Naples and Europe: The Neapolitan School of Music in the European Courts” is the theme of the 24th edition of the festival recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a National Festival and considered unique in the international festival scene, so much so that it has become part of the EFA European Festivals Association.
The Festival enjoys the patronage of the Campania Region, the Municipality of Naples, the Metropolitan City and Naples City of Music. And it is part of the major events of the municipal administration.
The press conference, which took place in the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro in the Cathedral of Naples, was attended by: Monsignor Vincenzo De Gregorio, Abbot of the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, former Dean of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music; Monsignor Vincenzo Doriano De Luca Dean of the VII Deanery of the Archbishop's Curia of Naples; Luigi Carbone, President of the Culture Commission of the Municipality of Naples; Maestro Carlo Faiello, musician and musicologist; Maestro Enzo Amato, artistic director of the Festival.
Statements:
“Twenty-four years have passed since the first edition of the International Festival of 700th Century Neapolitan Music but the enthusiasm is still the same with the awareness of having contributed to making the Neapolitan School of Music known, bringing to light countless masterpieces of the same including the Solemn Mass in D major for soloists, choir and orchestra, whose first performance in modern times took place in the Cathedral of Aversa with the Naples Chamber Orchestra conducted by me as part of the International Conference organized by the Neapolitan musicologist Alfredo Tarallo which took place in Aversa in December 1996 Jommelli and religious music in Italy at the end of the 250th century, tradition and contamination in the sacred production of the time. This same Mass will be performed in Naples for the first time with baroque instruments and with the tuning fork of the time on the occasion of the XNUMXth anniversary of the death of Niccolò Jommelli and to celebrate the Jubilee of the priesthood of Monsignor Vincenzo Doriano De Luca, Dean of the VII Deanery of the Archdiocese of Naples”. declared Enzo Amato, president of the Domenico Scarlatti Association, creator and artistic director of the Festival.
“Hosting you in this place is fully in line with our history and tradition which is not only religious but also civil and cultural. Bringing professional and professionalizing music is today an act of courage. We are in the trenches because we continue to believe that this heritage is an undoubted value”, declared Monsignor Vincenzo De Gregorio, Abbot of the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro
"Proposing a high-quality program like this is a duty to the city and to that part of the world that expects this from Naples. With Enzo Amato we found ourselves discussing the need for this Festival because the traces of the repertoire of that historical era are being lost and we want to give young artists the input to preserve it. Alongside the space given to the commercial proposal, the institutions must give a stage to a heritage that is written in our DNA and that will be interpreted by great artists engaged in an enormous work", declared Luigi Carbone, President of the Culture Commission of the Municipality of Naples.
“For years I have been fighting for the usability of all music that must not be understood but must be lived. When you put labels you raise walls. Music breaks down walls. Everyone can listen to everything, this is the effort we must make” Monsignor Vincenzo Doriano De Luca, Dean of the VII Deanery of the Archbishop's Curia of Naples.
"The concert I will propose is about the tarantella which, contrary to what one might think, has a sacred character. I have called many musicians from many Italian regions who will be protagonists on stage with me", declared Maestro Carlo Faiello, musician and musicologist
