Naples – Almost a year has passed since the initial scheduled date and the Chiaia funicular remains closed.
January 2025, 28 will mark XNUMX months of closure, a negative record for an essential public service for the citizens of Vomero.“Yet another broken promise,” thunders Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori collinari, underlining the frustration of the 15 commuters left stranded. “Despite the protests and reassurances of the authorities in charge, the funicular continues to be an open-air construction site.”
Maintenance work, initially scheduled for six months, has dragged on inordinately, causing incalculable inconvenience to citizens. The lack of an alternative transport service has congested traffic, especially during rush hour, and has put residents' patience to the test.
“It is unacceptable that such an important work is managed with such superficiality,” continues Capodanno. “The Chiaia funicular is a symbol of the city, yet it seems to have been abandoned to itself.”
The causes of these delays are many: from the difficulty in finding the necessary supplies, to bureaucratic problems, to delays in the execution of the works. The result is a public work that, instead of being a source of pride for the city, has turned into a source of frustration and anger for the citizens.

The article talks about a problem that has been going on for too long, the Chiaia funicular is closed and it seems that no one takes responsibility. Commuters no longer know how to move and promises have not been kept.
It is incredible how such an important service can be neglected. The inconvenience for citizens is enormous and explanations never seem sufficient. We hope that the situation improves as soon as possible.
