Exactly one year after the tragic death of the cat Leone, found on December 10, 2023 in Angri after being barbarically skinned alive, the Italian Association for the Defense of Animals and the Environment (AIDAA) relaunches its battle to obtain justice. The association has in fact announced the presentation of a new complaint to the Prosecutor's Office, with the aim of urging further investigations into a case that has deeply shocked public opinion.
Despite the joint efforts of veterinarians and volunteers of the kennel and the ASL of Cava de' Tirreni, Leone did not survive the wounds inflicted, dying in excruciating pain. The incident sparked indignation throughout Italy and even beyond the border, becoming a symbol of the fight against animal cruelty. Numerous demonstrations and torchlight processions, accompanied by speeches by associations and institutions, brought the issue of animal abuse to the attention of Parliament.
To date, however, those responsible for this cruel act remain unknown and unpunished. To keep the attention on the case high and to honor Leone's memory, AIDAA has decided to file a new complaint, highlighting the need to further investigate. "We believe there is still room for new investigative hypotheses. We are preparing a report that highlights elements useful for reopening the case. We invite anyone with information, even anonymously, to contact us or to contact the police", we read in an official note from the association.
While expressing respect for the work of the investigators, AIDAA reiterates the importance of prosecuting those who commit such heinous acts. “For Leone, and for all animals who are victims of cruelty, we will continue to ask for justice and truth”, the association declared, renewing its commitment to combating all forms of violence against animals.
