Gino Cecchettin, father of Giulia Cecchettin, victim of femicide by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, sentenced today to life imprisonment, commented on the sentence as he left the courtroom: "My feeling is that we all have, as a society".
And then he added: “I am neither more relieved nor more sad than yesterday or tomorrow. It is a strange feeling, I thought I would remain impassive. Justice has been done, I respect it, but we should do more as human beings.
Gender violence must be fought with prevention, with concepts that are perhaps a little too distant. As a human being I feel defeated”.
"The battle against violence continues. It is a path that must be taken as a society, with prevention. I will dedicate myself to the foundation, moving forward trying to save other lives."
“We are not here to honor the memory of Giulia Cecchettin, but for a legal path. This is not the place. Today was a necessary step to respect the laws that we have given ourselves as a civil society", he concluded.
