In Giugliano in Campania, the Carabinieri of the local company's radiomobile section arrested two individuals of Rom ethnicity at the end of a chase high voltage, culminating in a serious road accident with injuries.
It all started with the report of a Fiat Punto without a front license plate, whose occupants were suspected of attempting to steal cars parked at the Auchan shopping center. The car, spotted by the military while one of the suspects was trying to force a car, reacted by crashing head-on into the Carabinieri service vehicle and then fled.
A chase that lasted several kilometers ensued, during which the fugitives, zigzagging at high speed through traffic, threw objects at the police car, including a fire extinguisher and a spare tire.
The escape ended dramatically at the height of the Carrafiello Roma camp, where the criminals' Punto violently impacted a Fiat Panda of the Italian Post Office, throwing it off the road. The suspects' car stopped in the center of the road, allowing the military to block two of the occupants, including the driver, while a third accomplice managed to escape.
The Panda driver, injured in the head, was transported conscious to the hospital in Pozzuoli. Although his conditions appear serious, his life is not in danger.
The license plates of the Fiat Punto were stolen that morning in Pozzuoli. The two arrested were transferred to the Poggioreale prison and are at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
The carabinieri involved in the operation are fine and, barring unforeseen circumstances, will finally be able to return to their families this evening. The hope is that the Postal Service employee will soon be able to reunite with his loved ones.
