Matese woke up under a light blanket of snow, with the Caserta side of Bocca della Selva completely white. Sannio also wore its winter dress: a heavy snowfall gave a Christmas show to the inhabitants of Bocca della Selva and Cusano Mutri.
Despite the evocative beauty of the snowy landscape, the heavy rainfall has brought the usual inconveniences. The images show the streets of Cusano Mutri covered in a blanket of snow that has made travel difficult. In the meantime, the white peaks and crisp air have attracted some tourists to the Caserta side of Bocca della Selva, eager to admire nature and immerse themselves in the winter atmosphere.
However, this day, which could have been an opportunity to revitalize local tourism, once again highlights the failure to exploit the area's resources. "Years ago, €400.000 of European funds were allocated for an ambitious redevelopment project," says a regular visitor.

The initiative involved building wooden houses to accommodate tourists and creating an integrated structure to revitalize the winter economy. Although the houses were built, today they are in a state of abandonment, left to rot.
The situation is worsened by the inactivity of the ski lift, which could have been a turning point for winter tourism. Such an infrastructure would not only have attracted snow sports enthusiasts, but would also have created job opportunities and generated income for residents.
Today, as the snow paints the landscape like a fairytale painting, there remains the regret for an unexpressed potential. The natural beauty is indisputable, as is the desire for redemption of the local community. However, without careful management and a strategic vision, days like this will continue to be only an opportunity to dream of what could have been.

It is sad to see that despite the beauty of the snow, the roads are difficult to travel. Tourists come but without real tourism development things do not improve. Let's hope for a better future for this area.
