The debate on the future of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium. The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, confirmed that he had discussed with the president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, on the hypothesis of a purchase of the sports facility by the blue club. Speaking to the microphones of Radio Crc, Manfredi specified that a possible sale of the stadium would require a Revenue Agency assessment to establish the price of the property and surrounding areas.
"At the moment – explained the mayor – I have not yet requested a formal evaluation, because there is no official proposal from De Laurentiis. However, if there is a concrete interest, we will proceed with the appropriate checks, as is happening in Milan for the San Siro case”.
The announcement came during an institutional meeting dedicated to the world of sport, held in Council Hall of Palazzo San Giacomo, on the occasion of the traditional exchange of greetings with the representatives of the Campania Regional Committee of Coni, local sports federations and associations.

The event was attended by Mayor Manfredi and the Sports Councillor Emmanuel Ferrante, the Family Councillor Laura Striano, the president of the Sports Commission Gennaro Esposito and the councilor delegated to Sport of the Metropolitan City Sergio Colella.
Manfredi drew a positive balance of the year that is about to end, underlining the importance of sport not only as competitive competition, But also as social tool to spread healthy values among young people. “We have launched numerous projects to redevelop existing facilities and create new sports infrastructures”, declared the mayor.
Among the future objectives, the mayor reiterated the intention to redevelop the large facilities, such as the Maradona, and to create a new sports hall, in view of Naples European Capital of Sport 2026. Councilor Ferrante is on the same page and has announced new interventions to improve the facilities. “We have received funding from the Department of Sport for the Renovation of the swimming pool in Corso Secondigliano. We want to continue on this path, working to guarantee sporting activity in all the Municipalities, not only in the large facilities".
