Salerno. Moments of high tension on the Salerno ring road, where a group of car thieves attempted a daring escape after stealing a vehicle near the Arechi stadium. The timely intervention of the State Police and Carabinieri led to the arrest of a man, while three other accomplices managed to disappear into the surrounding countryside.
The operation began at night, when a patrol of the Flying Squad found a stolen car in Pontecagnano, with clear signs of forced entry to the ignition and the rear compartment modified to increase the load capacity. On board the vehicle, in addition to work tools, a 1,20-meter iron crowbar and nylon ropes were found. A white Fiat Doblò was also discovered nearby, which was found to be stolen and with the ignition system tampered with.
While the Scientific Police were carrying out their investigations, around 3:30, the officers intercepted a yellow Renault Clio with German license plates, already known to have been used in previous thefts from tobacconists and supermarkets. At the sight of the police, the vehicle with four people on board fled, first taking the ring road, then the coastal road and the Aversana.
During the long chase, the fugitives attempted several times to ram the service cars. The escape ended in a dead end, where three of the four occupants fled on foot into the surrounding countryside. One of them, a 53-year-old Bosnian with numerous criminal records and from the nomad camp of Giugliano in Campania, was stopped and arrested.
The man is accused of resisting a public official, aggravated damage and receiving stolen goods. He was also reported for unjustified possession of burglary tools and for being an illegal immigrant on Italian territory. Law enforcement is now working to identify and track down the three accomplices on the run.

I read the article and it seems strange to me that there are so many thefts in Salerno. The police should be more careful. Let's hope they can catch the other accomplices, so the situation could improve.
