The Instituto Cervantes is organizing a special event to celebrate the art of flamenco and the legendary figure of Antonia Singla, known as "la Singla." This double event will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Institut Français in Naples. The event is part of the 1506th edition of the Europa Cinema al Femminile Festival, in collaboration with the Spanish and French cultural institutes, and the XNUMX film social promotion association.
Screening of "La Singla"
The evening will begin at 19:30 PM with the screening of the documentary "La Singla," directed by Paloma Zapata. The film explores the life of Antonia Singla, a deaf dancer who managed to dance without hearing the music, becoming an icon in the world of flamenco. During the event, actress Helena Kaittani, the protagonist of the award-winning documentary, will participate in a conversation with Marina Brancato, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Antonia Singla, born in Barceloneta in the 50s, astonished the flamenco world despite her deafness. At just 17, she caught the attention of figures such as Dalí and Jacques Cousteau, even performing at the Olympia in Paris. However, her career mysteriously ended in the late 70s, a mystery the documentary attempts to unravel through archival footage.
Por Rosas Concert-Show
Following this, starting at 21:30 PM, the concert-show by Por Rosas will take place, a project bringing together Italian-Argentine singer Ana Rita Rosarillo and Roman guitarist Francesca Turchetti, along with dancer Michela Mancini. This unique event in Italy will offer a musical journey from flamenco to South American music, performed exclusively by female artists. The show promises to immerse spectators in Andalusian culture through a variety of artistic expressions, including singing, guitar, and dance. Admission to the events is free, subject to availability, offering an unmissable opportunity for those wishing to explore the tradition of flamenco and the mystery surrounding Antonia Singla.

It seems like an interesting event, but I don't know if there will be many people. Antonia Singla's story is very fascinating and it would be nice to see the documentary, but I'm not sure I'll be able to go for various reasons.
