The 2.100 Alpine Rescue workers who have been participating in the recovery attempts of the two Emilian climbers missing on the mountain for over two days are stuck in a refuge in Campo Imperatore, at about 11 meters above sea level on the Gran Sasso.
Searches suspended
The search is still suspended due to bad weather. The Abruzzo Alpine Rescue Service has communicated that "the cableway that leads from Fonte Cerreto to Campo Imperatore has been restored by technicians upstream but cannot operate at the moment due to strong winds". With the rescuers there are also eight workers from the refuge, and all risk remaining at altitude until the weather conditions improve, expected after Christmas.
Who are the climbers trapped on Gran Sasso?
Luca Perazzini, 42, and Cristian Gualdi, 48, friends from Santarcangelo di Romagna, Rimini, were well equipped for the climb, but now there are fears for their lives: no one knows at the moment whether the two are still alive and whether they will be able to withstand the freezing temperatures of another night at ten degrees below zero.

Weather warning and worsening
In the area where the two are missing, the alert on Sunday, December 22 was yellow – that is, an ordinary criticality – for avalanches. The forecast indicated "isolated to scattered precipitation, including showers or thunderstorms". However, the weather conditions worsened, becoming prohibitive, especially because of the wind.

It's a worrying situation, I hope that the rescuers can find the climbers in time. The bad weather is complicating everything and it's not easy to work in these conditions. Many thoughts for them and their families.
