Naples. The finance officers of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples arrested, in recent days, a 24-year-old man in Afragola. The man was found in possession of a large quantity of illegal pyrotechnic material, characterized by a high explosive potential.
The operation was conducted by the military of the Frattamaggiore Group as part of an activity aimed at combating illicit trafficking. During the investigation, a garage located inside a building was identified, used as a clandestine laboratory for the manufacture and storage of explosive products.
The search led to the seizure of over 9.000 pyrotechnic devices, for a total weight of more than 120 kg of explosive material. Equipment for the production of firecrackers was also found, whose explosive potential, defined as "lethal" by the bomb disposal experts who intervened, represented a serious risk for the stability of the building and public safety.
According to estimates, if placed on the black market, the goods could have generated an illicit profit of around 50 thousand euros. The products lacked indications regarding the quality and quantity of the explosive mixture, further increasing the danger of their distribution.
The young man was transferred, by order of the Judicial Authority, to the Naples-Poggioreale prison. He will have to answer for the crimes of manufacturing, possession and trade of explosive material.
