Eugenio Donise, a prominent figure in the Italian Communist Party in Naples, has died at the age of 83. His political career began in the Italian Communist Youth Federation and developed within the PCI, where he served as secretary of the Campania section.

He has held important positions, including the roles of senator for the Pozzuoli constituency, regional councilor and councilor for Decentralization in the government of Maurizio Valenzi in the 70s and 80s. In 1994, he was elected to the Senate with the Progressisti and subsequently re-elected in 1996 with the Ulivo.

Memories and tributes

Donise, also known for his work as an author, has left a deep mark on Neapolitan politics. Arturo Scotto, Pd group leader in the Labor Commission of the Chamber, expressed his regret by stating: "I learned with dismay of the death of Eugenio Donise... He represented the city in the Senate of the Republic, animating the political and cultural debate of Naples for years, even after the end of his institutional commitment".

Scotto recalled his last meeting with Donise during a conference at the Cgil Labour Chamber, referring to him as a «man of an immense culture", highlighting his daily presence in Port'Alba, and concluded with affection: "He will be missed by many of us who knew him and by the many workers he always defended. Goodbye Eugenio."

The Anthony Bassolino, former mayor of Naples and president of the Campania Region, shared his grief on social media, writing:

«It was really not needed, and then on a day like this… The passing of Eugenio Donise, historic and esteemed leader of the PCI, a dear comrade and friend since we were kids, is an unimaginable pain for me. I loved you very much, you were like a brother: a kiss, Eugenio».
