Giuseppe Di Muro's exhibition, titled "ZEMRUDE The Multiple City," continues at the Museo-FRaC. Curated by Massimo, the exhibition features over seventy works created by the artist in raku ceramics over the past decade. The works explore the concept of a "multiple" city, reflecting on the moods of those who observe it, in a tribute to Italo Calvino's story "Invisible Cities."
A Journey into the Multiple City
Anna Petta, mayor of Baronissi, described the exhibition as an initiative that frees art from ideological superstructures, offering a vision that bridges the gap between the visual arts and literature. Zemrude represents an imaginary city with multiple perspectives. This event is part of the Museo-FRaC's 2024-2025 program, which aims to promote artistic culture through research and experimentation. Among the museum's previous exhibitions, an exhibition dedicated to Jacopo Naddeo's photographic book on Burkina Faso stands out as a similar moment of artistic exploration.
The Interpretation of the City
In an interview with Claudio Marabini in "The Cities of Poets," Italo Calvino emphasizes how the meaning of a city is always open to interpretation. Calvino argues that to understand a city, it is essential to free oneself from preconceptions and reduce complex elements to an essential form. This thought has influenced contemporary artists and thinkers, including Giuseppe Di Muro, who over his twenty-year career has explored multiple urban perspectives.
Creative Dialogues with Zemrude
Di Muro's exhibited works, particularly those depicting Zemrude shrouded in black shadows or invaded by the red of destruction, address themes of fear and everyday existence. The use of raku ceramics highlights a dialogue with antiquity and Mediterranean forms. Di Muro reflects on Calvino's thought, asserting that no aspect of the city is more real than another, making Zemrude a symbol of imagination and the common challenges to which art seeks to respond. The exhibition will be open to visitors until Sunday, December 15th.
