Naples - A significant step forward for security in the city of Naples was announced during a meeting of the Observation Panel at the VI Municipality. The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, outlined an ambitious plan that includes strengthening law enforcement and a massive investment in surveillance technology.
By next January, 500 new police officers will be deployed throughout the metropolitan area, strengthening their presence and ensuring greater vigilance. Specifically, the VI Municipality will benefit from the installation of 54 license plate readers and 28 dome cameras, a cutting-edge surveillance system that will support law enforcement investigations.
But the news doesn't stop there. The municipal administration has announced the hiring of 60 new traffic police officers, most of whom will be assigned to peripheral areas, such as the VI Municipality. Furthermore, new service vehicles are planned for the Municipal Police operational units, ensuring greater mobility and rapid response.
"The safety of our citizens is our top priority," declared the Prefect of Bari.

In addition to safety, the city administration is working to improve the quality of life for residents by redeveloping public spaces and organizing events. The goal is to create gathering places and promote activities that engage the community.
"We are aware of the challenges the city faces," said Antonio De Iesu, Councilor for Municipal Police and Legal Affairs. "But we are equally determined to find concrete solutions to improve the situation. With this plan, we are taking a big step toward a safer and more livable Naples."
The next meeting of the Observation Table is scheduled for January 2025, an opportunity to take stock of the situation and evaluate the results achieved.

The news of new police officers and cameras is interesting, but I hope the results are effective. Safety is important to all of us, but it also requires constant commitment not only in words but also in deeds.
It's a good thing that Naples does something for security but I wonder if these agents are really enough to cover the entire metropolitan area. More collaboration between institutions and citizens is needed.
