Naples, A tragedy that leaves us shocked and raises serious questions about the health system. Carmine Puccinelli, a boy of only 15 years old, died because of a tumor diagnosed with a serious delay, as emerged from a technical report filed with the Macerata Prosecutor's Office.
According to the reconstruction, the first symptoms had already manifested themselves in December 2022, when Carmine had started to feel severe pain in his knee. Despite repeated requests for help, the doctors would have underestimated the seriousness of the situation, initially diagnosing a simple bruise or a cyst.
“They told me that there was nothing serious, that the tumor was just a liquid to be aspirated,” denounced the boy’s mother, Immacolata Riccio, shocked by pain and indignation. “I trusted the doctors, but every day I saw my son getting worse. When they finally understood that it was a tumor, it was too late.”
A late diagnosis that, according to the family's lawyers, deprived Carmine of any hope of recovery. "A serious diagnostic delay was ascertained that decisively influenced the outcome of the disease", explain lawyers Filippo Castaldo, Michele Francesco Sorrentino and Pierlorenzo Catalano of the Maior associated firm. "Prompt action could have saved Carmine's life".
The Puccinelli family decided to make their story public to ask for justice and to prevent other children from suffering the same fate. “My son was a martyr on earth, but God will see the truth,” said the mother.
The Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation and the health workers involved risk serious charges. The family, meanwhile, does not give up and promises to continue the legal battle until all those responsible are called to answer for their actions.
