In 2025, Neon Genesis Evangelion will turn 30. It was 1995 when Hideoki Anno and Gainax gave birth to this anime television series that has undoubtedly made history and which can currently be watched in streaming on Netflix.
In Gainax's intentions, at least initially, it was supposed to represent the ideal sequel to "The Secret of Blue Water" but then it was not so. Religious and Kabbalistic references abound in the series, remarkable is the introspective figure that Freudianly lays bare the inner world of the various characters.
There are many philosophical and cinematographic references. The whole thing is set in the futuristic Neo Tokyo 3, 15 years after a catastrophe that decreed the destruction of our planet.
But let's talk about the protagonists of Nge: Shinji Ikari
The main character is Shinji Ikari, a character with markedly Svevian traits (the author of Senility and Zeno's Conscience, among others, would probably have liked him) who, on behalf of the Nerv agency, pilots a giant mecha called Eva which he uses to face the mysterious Angels.
Shinji was abandoned by his father Gendo following the death of his partner, Shinji's mother. The boy is introverted and avoidant and tends to self-sabotage. Anti-hero par excellence, he does not want to evolve and is hostage to the contradictory relationship that binds him to his father. Nihilistically, he is not looking for an existential "raison d'etre", there is no trace of idealism in him and he lives exquisitely in function of his father's approval, suffering from constant inadequacy and an almost obsessive fear of his parent's judgment.

The article is interesting but I noticed that there are many things that are not clear. For example, the relationship between Shinji and his father Gendo is complicated but is not explained well. It would be useful to have more details on certain aspects of the plot and characters.
