On the occasion of the International Day of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Sansevero Chapel inaugurates a new initiative designed for deaf people. From December 3, visitors will be able to enjoy innovative video tours created in Italian Sign Language (LIS), which illustrate the main attractions of the famous historic building, created by the Prince of Sansevero.
Project details
The initiative is divided into two types of videos in LIS: one intended for the on-site experience and one for online use. The videos available in the Chapel are designed with a neutral background and do not include subtitles, making them accessible through devices that can be rented free of charge by visitors with disabilities. As for the website, the videos are enriched with subtitles and images of the works of art, and are also available on YouTube.
Tours and collaborations
The LIS tour, lasting about 20 minutes, offers a narration of the main works of the Chapel, with an introduction dedicated to the historical figure of the Prince of Sansevero. The project is developed in collaboration with the company Imagineear, which involved experts in Italian Sign Language, including Dr. Violante Nonno and the narrator Deborah Donadio. The creation of the videos was entrusted to CREI, a cooperative specialized in promoting accessibility for deaf people.
Inclusion initiatives
The Cappella Sansevero does not stop at LIS itineraries and has already launched the “Museo per Tutti” program since 2023, designed for people with intellectual disabilities. The latter is promoted by L'Abilità Onlus with the support of the De Agostini Foundation, demonstrating the museum's commitment to making its resources accessible to a wide range of visitors.
