Overnight, a joint operation between Italian and Brazilian law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of 23 people, five in Italy and 18 in Brazil. Those arrested are linked to three criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking along the Atlantic route and money laundering.
Internationally coordinated operation
The complex operation was the result of international cooperation led by the Turin District Anti-Mafia Directorate, the Carabinieri of the ROS (Special Operations Unit), and the Turin Provincial Command. The Brazilian Federal Police and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office of the Paraná and Paraiba districts are also involved. This collaboration has been ongoing since 2019 and aims to dismantle transnational drug trafficking networks.
The involvement of the 'Ndrangheta
Thanks to "Operation Samba," the authorities managed to unmask a vast criminal organization with ramifications in Piedmont and links to the 'Ndrangheta.

The operation that led to the arrest of 23 people is a very important thing for the fight against drug trafficking. However, I wonder if they will really be able to stop all these criminal organizations that operate both in Italy and Brazil. We need to do more.
