As many as 150 specialists arrived from all over Europe to train in an endoscopic surgery technique complementary to the traditional “otomicroscopic” surgery adopted by Professor Giuseppe Panetti at the Complex Operating Unit of Otorhinolaryngology of the San Paolo hospital (ASL Napoli 1 Centro).
The occasion was the 16th International Workshop on Endoscopic LIVE Ear Surgery, which was held yesterday and which included a frontal lesson with an introduction to the endoscopic technique and its multiple indications, a brief presentation of the scheduled clinical cases and live surgical interventions in two operating rooms with the students present in the room, so as to allow better interaction with the operating team and therefore direct learning of the subject.
"This endoscopic technique," explains Professor Panetti, "allows us to see the most hidden corners of the ear through a minimally invasive approach that uses the ear canal as an access point. The use of this surgical procedure, in selected cases, has positively changed the approach and therefore the invasiveness of delicate surgeries, thus allowing for improved precision and shorter recovery times for patients."

Over the years, the workshop has brought specialists from countries such as Germany, Australia, Belgium, China, Israel and India to Naples with the aim of learning in the operating room, observing the work of Professor Panetti and his team, the steps of this endoscopic surgical technique. It is no coincidence that Professor Panetti is considered, at an international level, an expert in the field and the techniques he performs, both endoscopic and microscopic at the San Paolo Hospital allow for the treatment of all inflammatory pathologies of the ear, to perform reconstructions or to address otosclerosis or deafness.
"Events like this," comments General Manager Ciro Verdoliva, "allow us to share and share medical and surgical knowledge with many specialists. The Otolaryngology Unit at the San Paolo Hospital has once again proven itself to be a leading international healthcare facility, offering treatments of the highest quality through cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgical techniques."
