Edoardo Bove, a midfielder born in 2002, will undergo surgery on Monday at the Careggi hospital in Florence, where he was admitted following the illness he suffered last Sunday. The young footballer will be implanted with a subcutaneous defibrillator, the same device that allowed Christian Eriksen to return to the field.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, this solution, although lifesaving, represents the end of Bove's professional career in Italy. The regulations in force in our country, in fact, prevent those who have implanted such a device from playing at a professional level. A rule that is not found in other nations, as demonstrated by the case of Eriksen, who resumed his career in the Premier League.

The operation, led by Professor Pasquale Bernardo, was agreed upon after a careful medical and psychological evaluation, conducted together with the footballer's family. If everything goes as planned, Bove could be discharged from the hospital as early as next week.

The resumption of his sporting activity will be discussed in the coming months, but to continue playing the midfielder will necessarily have to look to foreign championships. On the contractual front, it will be inevitable to address the issue of consensual termination with the Rome, current owner of the player's registration.

It's very sad for Edoardo Bove, who is only 21 and now has to face such a big surgery. The rule in Italy is strange, I don't understand why they can't let him play if others do. I hope he recovers soon.
