Over the last month, following the guidelines indicated by the Prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bari, and in collaboration with the mayor of Portici, the finance police of the Provincial Command of Naples have intensified their economic-financial police activities and the fight against illicit trafficking in the territory of the municipality of Portici.
In particular, the military personnel of the Portici Company and the Naples Emergency Response Group, supported by canine units, carried out operations in the main city arteries and in the nightlife areas of Portici, including Corso Umberto I, Corso Garibaldi, Piazza San Ciro, Via Università, Piazza Gravina, Viale Leonardo da Vinci, Piazza San Pasquale, Via Marittima and the motorway entrance.
The interventions were aimed at combating the illegal sale of cigarettes, the use of narcotic substances, ensuring product safety and monitoring compliance with the Highway Code.
At the end of the operations, the patrols checked over 600 people and 400 vehicles, reported 6 individuals to the Judicial Authority for smuggling of cigarettes, reported 5 individuals to the Prefect of Naples for use of narcotic substances, seized over 100.000 items not compliant with safety standards and wrote more than 50 reports for violations of the highway code. Among the measures, there was the seizure of two vehicles and a motorcycle, the driver of which was found to be without a driving license and responsible for having provided false personal details in an attempt to evade control.

It is important that the authorities monitor security in the territory, but there should also be more information for citizens on the risks of narcotics and the consequences of cigarette smuggling. Security is fundamental.
