Il Carlo Missaglia Award is preparing to celebrate its second edition, supported by Progetto Itaca Napoli and by the Missaglia family.
The events will be held in Naples on 10 and 11 December 2024, in two prominent locations: the Basilica of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli and the Industrial Union of Naples.Events and Activities
The first event will take place in the Basilica of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli on December 10 at 17:30 p.m. A round table discussion will focus on the figure of Carlo Missaglia, a well-known scholar and narrator of Neapolitan song. The session will be moderated by Pasquale Scialò, musicologist and composer, together with experts such as Francesca Seller, Maurizio Pica and Raffaele Di Mauro. A musical performance by the Quartieri Spagnoli Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Giuseppe Mallozzi, will follow.
On December 11, the birthday of Carlo Missaglia, Palazzo Partanna, seat of theUnion of Industrialists of Naples, will be the setting for the awarding of the Carlo Missaglia Prize. Three sculptures by Renzo Bighetti will be assigned to Lina Sastri, Mario Martone and Salvatore De Pasquale, better known as Depsa, in recognition of their contribution to Neapolitan culture.
Solidarity and Theatre
The event also includes solidarity initiatives. Among these, the proposal of solidarity gifts such as a handmade dark chocolate panettone, an illustrated romance novel and a box of Carnaroli rice. Furthermore, on Friday 24 January, an evening at the Bracco Theatre will see the proceeds donated to Progetto Itaca, with the aim of raising awareness on the issue of mental distress.
Numerous cultural and institutional bodies, including the Municipality of Naples, the Industrial Union of Naples, and the Lions Club Milano Host, sponsor the Carlo Missaglia Award, which aims to perpetuate the tradition of Neapolitan song in honor of an illustrious promoter such as Carlo Missaglia.
