The Carlo Missaglia Prize is preparing to celebrate its second edition, supported by Progetto Itaca Napoli and the Missaglia family. The events will be held in Naples on December 10 and 11, 2024, in two prominent locations: the Basilica of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli and the Industrial Union of Naples.
### Events and Activities
The first event will take place in the Basilica of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli on December 10th at 17:30 PM. A roundtable discussion will focus on Carlo Missaglia, a renowned scholar and narrator of Neapolitan song. The session will be moderated by Pasquale Scialò, musicologist and composer, along with experts such as Francesca Seller, Maurizio Pica, and Raffaele Di Mauro. It will be followed by a musical performance by the Quartieri Spagnoli Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Giuseppe Mallozzi.
On December 11th, Carlo Missaglia's birthday, Palazzo Partanna, headquarters of the Naples Industrialists' Union, will host the Carlo Missaglia Prize awards ceremony. Three sculptures by Renzo Bighetti will be presented to Lina Sastri, Mario Martone, and Salvatore De Pasquale, better known as Depsa, in recognition of their contributions to Neapolitan culture.
### Solidarity and Theater
The event also includes charitable initiatives. These include the offering of solidarity gifts such as a handmade dark chocolate panettone, an illustrated romance novel, and a box of Carnaroli rice. Furthermore, on Friday, January 24th, an evening at the Bracco Theater will benefit Progetto Itaca, with the aim of raising awareness about mental health issues.
Numerous cultural and institutional organizations, including the Municipality of Naples, the Industrial Union of Naples, and the Lions Club Milano Host, sponsor the Carlo Missaglia Award, which aims to perpetuate the tradition of Neapolitan song in honor of an illustrious promoter like Carlo Missaglia.
