Moments of high tension yesterday in the Benevento court, during the hearing of the trial known as “A Clockwork Orange”. The debate was abruptly interrupted when one of the defendants threatened to take his own life, forcing the magistrates to temporarily suspend the session.
The man, held in pretrial detention, was immediately transferred to a cell by the prison police, continuing to scream and creating further chaos. After calming down, he was brought back to the courtroom where he asked to make spontaneous statements. During his speech, he insistently asked to obtain house arrest, stressing that the other defendants involved in the case already benefit from it.
After the tense interlude, the hearing resumed with the testimony of a witness who had been previously interrupted and with the statements of a young victim, who recounted the dramatic details of the incident. The next hearing has been set for 7st January, when the trial will continue with further key testimony.
The facts of the case: violence disguised as an argument
The case dates back to December 18th of last year when, during a check in San Leucio del Sannio, the carabinieri stopped a Fiat Idea with three people on board. The driver, Kill, was accompanied by a young man and a twenty-year-old man with facial injuries sitting in the back seat. The three claimed that the injuries were the result of a fight that had taken place in Ceppaloni, but the explanations did not convince the military.
The next day, the twenty-year-old filed a complaint, revealing a very different version: he had been approached by an acquaintance who had asked him to deliver a watch and a basket of cold cuts to the home of a certain baroneThe delivery had turned into an episode of brutal violence, now at the centre of the legal proceedings.
The hearing on January 7 will be crucial to shed light on the events that led to this dramatic case. Meanwhile, tension remains high, both in the courtroom and among the families of the victims and defendants, while the city of Benevento is following with apprehension the development of a story that has shocked public opinion.
