Naples. Four foreign inmates, housed in the Milan section of the Naples-Poggioreale prison, destroyed their sleeping quarters yesterday, expressing their desire to be transferred.
Despite attempts at mediation by the department commander, Francesco Maiorano, director of the Penitentiary Police, it was necessary for the personnel present to intervene, supported by colleagues recalled to duty, to restore order.

Luigi Castaldo, vice president of the Con.Si.Pe union, underlined the growing difficulties in managing similar situations, highlighting the lack of adequate tools, such as tasers, to avoid physical confrontations. "Fortunately, the massive presence of staff deterred the troublemakers, preventing the situation from escalating further.", Castaldo declared.
The four detainees were criminally charged. Three of them were ordered to be transferred to another penitentiary institution.

The article says that the inmates destroyed the rooms, but it is not clear why. The commander's attempts were useless and this makes one wonder about the management of similar situations in the prison of Naples.
