A movie-like episode in Torre del Greco. Last night, a quiet cash withdrawal turned into a nightmare for a 60-year-old. While withdrawing cash from an ATM in via Montedoro, he was threatened with a gun by a criminal who ordered him to hand over the money.
But the story took an unexpected turn. The victim, taking advantage of a moment of distraction by the robber, managed to free herself and call for help. Fortunately, at that moment a traffic policeman from Ercolano, off duty, was passing by. The man, without hesitation, stopped the criminal, a 24-year-old from Ercolano already known to the police, disarming him and attempting to immobilize him.
A hair-raising chase
A violent fight ensued, during which the robber tried in vain to escape on his motorcycle. Despite the criminal's resistance, the policeman managed to hold him down until the carabinieri arrived.

It's amazing how certain situations can happen in seemingly peaceful places. The cop's reaction was quick and courageous, but I don't understand how a criminal can think he can get away with a gun, especially if it's just a replica.
