A sign of hope and resistance comes from the Scampia neighborhood, the scene of a long and complex urban redevelopment process. "Redemption and dignity for the people of Scampia" and "It all began here, goodbye, goodbye" are the messages emblazoned on a banner displayed on the Yellow Sail, awaiting demolition. This symbolic gesture was promoted by the Vele Committee, which highlighted the difficult conditions experienced by residents in their fight for a better future.
A farewell to the past
The large banner is an emblematic salute to what for many was not only a home but also a concrete prison. Following symbolic occupations, the Vele Committee wanted to denounce the local administration's delays in paying those evicted from the Vele, payments needed to support their self-relocation.
Complaints and demands for social justice
Committee members forcefully express a mixture of hope and anger, highlighting the City's unfulfilled promises regarding the financial assistance needed to support rents for new housing. Their rallying cry is clear: to obtain what is necessary for a dignified future, which includes demolishing dilapidated structures and building new housing.

The Restart Scampia project
As part of a major redevelopment plan, the Restart Scampia program calls for the demolition of the Yellow and Red Sails and the redevelopment of the Blue Sails. The latter, scarred by a recent tragedy, will be the only one not demolished. The project also calls for the construction of 433 new sustainable housing units, with a total funding of €159 million from various sources, including the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and other European and national funds.
