The eviction of the Vela Gialla in Scampia has officially begun, following the order signed by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, last September 10. In fact, starting this morning, the utilities will be disconnected and then the police will enter the residential structure to remove the families.
About fifteen families still live inside the structure, according to data provided by the Municipality. These, like others who have already moved from their apartments, now find themselves facing the challenge of finding a new home.
This research is made particularly complex by the difficult economic and working conditions in which many families find themselves, often without sufficient guarantees to convince the owners to grant a lease, despite the financial support offered by the Municipality through the contribution for independent accommodation.
Before the eviction, the utilities were turned off, and the demolition site will be started later. The Yellow Sail will be the first of the three structures still standing to be demolished; the Red Sail will follow, while the Celestial Sailing will be maintained and subjected to a redevelopment process.
In place of the two demolished sails, 433 new homes will be built, as part of the “Restart Scampia” project, financed with an investment of 159 million euros.

The eviction of Vela Gialla is a complicated situation for the families who live there. We hope that the Municipality can provide better and more effective support to help them find new homes quickly.
