Piazza Mercato becomes under special surveillance. By decision of the prefect Michele di Bari, in agreement with the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, the continuous presence, 24 hours a day, of an Army patrol has been ordered. The objective is clear: to prevent and combat the scooter raids and violent behavior attributed to groups of young people in the neighborhood.
The initiative received the applause of residents, of the president of the II Municipality Roberto Marino and of local associations. “A concrete intervention to mitigate the community's perception of insecurity and ensure better conditions of civil coexistence”, we read in a note released by the Municipality.
Also the mayor Gaetano Manfredi and the councilor to the Municipal Police and to Legality Antonio De Iesu expressed satisfaction. “We applaud the measures adopted and are grateful to the prefect, the police forces and the military who with their commitment contribute to guaranteeing safety in symbolic places such as Piazza Dante and Market Square".
