An event of great cultural and spiritual value took place yesterday evening, December 6, in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall of Sorrento: the presentation of a book and a video dedicated to the reproduction of the ancient vessel used by the Apostle Peter.
The work, a faithful historical reconstruction created by theAncient Wood Shipyard Aprea, represents not only a masterpiece of Sorrento naval craftsmanship, but also a symbol of welcome and union. The vessel, donated to Pope Francesco, is today located at the entrance to the Vatican Museums and was welcomed by the Pope with the significant nickname of "the boat of all".
During the event, the President of the City Council, Louis Di Prisco, expressed his appreciation for the craftsmanship and passion that made this work possible. “I sincerely thank the Aprea family of Antico Cantiere del Legno Aprea, for all that they do: they are the custodians of a precious tradition that, through the generations, continues to tell the world about the greatness of Sorrento craftsmanship. Seeing three generations of the Aprea family present yesterday filled me with joy and hope. It means that the future of this sector is alive and promising.”
A special recognition was dedicated to the Aponte family, which made the construction of the vessel possible through a significant philanthropic contribution. “The work, defined by Pope Francis as 'the boat of all', today welcomes pilgrims and tourists at the entrance to the Vatican Museums. It is a symbol of union and welcome, which brings with it the name of Sorrento and the universal values of our community.”
During the evening, a model of the Peter's Boat It was exhibited in the council chamber, offering those present the opportunity to admire this extraordinary testimony of craftsmanship and spirituality up close.
“I am proud that our city administration has been able to sponsor such a significant initiative. It was a moment of great emotion for our city and an opportunity to celebrate what makes us unique: the ability to unite tradition, spirituality and innovation”, concluded Di Prisco.
The event was widely attended, once again underlining the strong bond between the Sorrento community and its cultural and artistic roots.

Last night's event was very interesting. The book presentation and video about the boat were informative, although there were some parts that could have been explained better. It's nice to see the tradition continue.
