Eleven convictions—including plea bargains and shortened sentences—in the southern Cilento area, which in 11 was affected by a major drug trafficking incident. The investigation was conducted by the Carabinieri of the Agropoli Company, together with the military of the Salerno provincial command. The defendants, under various charges, were accused of running a drug dealing network operating from the area stretching from Agropoli North, thus the gateway to the Cilento, up to Capaccio, Paestum, Eboli, Campagna and Battipaglia, even touching the province of Avellino.
The investigative activity led to the recovery of over 1 kilo of drugs, with the involvement of six individuals reported to the administrative authorities for simple consumption, one reported at liberty and the arrest of eight people caught in the act of possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing. During the operations, numerous 7,65 caliber ammunition and a common firearm were found. According to the prosecution, the drug dealing activity was not limited to the external territory, but also involved the “Antonio Caputo” prison in Salerno.
