An unpleasant incident marked a Christmas event in Venice, during which a group of Neapolitan students were subjected to racist and homophobic insults. The complaint came from the dean of the Archimede State Higher Education Institute, Mariarosaria Stanziano, who expressed her outrage in a social media post.

On Saturday, December 21, twenty students from the institute took part in a historical walk through the streets of Venice dressed in XNUMXth-century clothing. The headmistress reported that during the event, “racist, discriminatory and homophobic chants” were addressed to the students, underlining the “absurd and unjustified cruelty and wickedness” of such insults. The insults were allegedly motivated by their Neapolitan origins and their clothing.

Despite the incident, Stanziano expressed his pride for the kids who defied the odds by participating in the initiative. He said he had informed the Campania Region School Councilor and intends to write an open letter to the competent authorities of Venice and Veneto to report the incident.

The students, coming from a difficult background, were able to interact with other historical dance associations and lived a significant experience, culminating with a dinner in a highly prestigious context. According to the principal, these moments of participation and inclusion cannot be obscured by such intolerant attitudes.
