Atalanta is at the top of the Serie A table, at least temporarily, after their 2-1 win over Milan, but Gian Piero Gasperini is calling for calm. During the post-match press conference, the coach stressed that the lead is a source of joy for the fans, but not a distraction for the team.
"We are not the ones talking about the Scudetto. For us, doing so does not mean being stronger. However, it is right that the fans sing and dream: it has never happened before to see Atalanta in December. Let them enjoy this moment, it is an outburst of joy for a community with its feet on the ground", declared Gasperini, who invites everyone to look beyond the clamor of the moment.
Gasperini firmly rejected the controversy raised by opposing coach Paulo Fonseca over the alleged foul by De Ketelaere on the occasion of the decisive goal. “Our victory cannot be tarnished. For me it was an extraordinary gesture: it went to heaven, anticipating everyone, with incredible timing. There were no such dubious episodes. We deservedly won, even in numbers”.

With their ninth consecutive victory, Atalanta set a new record. “Managing to have a streak like that, in a championship like Serie A, where every game is balanced, is a great result. We did it against a strong opponent, who has very dangerous players, but we were superior in terms of opportunities and spirit. We were never satisfied, we always played to win”.
Gasperini he analyzed the challenge against the Rossoneri: “We weren’t overflowing because Milan are a difficult opponent. We suffered a few initial insertions, but then we grew and controlled the game. In the open field we were good, managing even the most complicated moments well. The goal we conceded came at a time when we were playing well, but it didn’t compromise our ability to react”.
