The Carabinieri of the Casalotti Station in Rome, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Rome, have arrested a 32-year-old from Naples, already known to the police, accused of extortion against a woman.
The victim, a 52-year-old Italian woman, reported having been defrauded through a well-orchestrated scam: two simultaneous phone calls, one received on a landline from a fake Carabinieri marshal and the other on a cell phone from a supposed lawyer, threatened her with serious legal consequences for her husband, who was involved in a non-existent fatal car accident.
Under pressure, the woman handed over to the crook 1.000 euros in cash and gold jewelry. However, thanks to a timely intervention, the Carabinieri managed to track down and stop the 32-year-old in the Casalotti area, recovering the entire stolen goods, which were then returned to the owner.
The arrest was validated, and the Court of Rome ordered the man to sign in at his municipality of residence.
