Monsignor Orazio Soricelli, Archbishop of Amalfi-Cava de' Tirreni, shared a moving open letter with the faithful in which he provides an update on his health conditions, marked by Parkinson's and diabetes.

Despite the challenges, the Prelate said he was calm and confident, reiterating his commitment to serving the Church as long as his strength allows him. In the letter, Monsignor Soricelli thanked for the numerous testimonies of affection received and explained how, even while facing a period of suffering, his faith and the closeness of the Lord support him profoundly.

“For some years I have been struggling with the Parkinson's disease and diabetes”, he wrote. “Recently, due to a lowering of the tone of my voice, I have undertaken specialist tests and am being followed by a team at Gemelli. I have already started the planned treatments at a specialized center”.

The Archbishop defined this phase of his life as an opportunity to reflect on the gifts received from God and on the essences of life. “I am serene and confident: the closeness of the Lord, the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the intercession of our Patron Saints make this period less burdensome”.

Despite the difficulties, Monsignor Soricelli confirmed his desire to continue serving the diocesan community, relying on prayer and the testimony of unity of the faithful. “My ministry will continue as long as God wants it and my strength allows me. I count on your prayers and your affection.”

The Archbishop's words have aroused great emotion in the community, which has gathered around him with testimonies of closeness and gratitude. The mayor of Amalfi also wanted to express his affection, defining Monsignor Soricelli as a “example of dedication and spiritual strength”.

It is a very touching article that makes you think about how faith can help in difficult situations like the Monsignor's. I think everyone should take an example from his determination and the serenity he transmits, despite the suffering.

And a beautiful message that Monsignor Soricelli wrote, but I wonder if his words are sincere. Sometimes, people say things to appear strong but inside they are suffering. I hope he finds peace and health.
