“Only 138 more units for Campania. A thousand would be needed. Despite the efforts of the Government with the introduction of the 184th Penitentiary Police course, only 138 units will arrive in our region”.

This is what the vice president of the Consipe Penitentiary Police union, Luigi Castaldo, says in a note, for whom the increase "is water that does not quench thirst, given the serious and chronic staff shortages".

The union invites the superintendent Lucia Castellano "sensitive to these problems to urge the DAP leaders to have a greater number of Penitentiary Police personnel to support the Campania penitentiaries, especially those affected by continuous critical events".

However, SAPPE has a different opinion: “We warmly welcome the commitment made by Undersecretary of Justice Delmastro Delle Vedove to increase the staff of the Penitentiary Police Department of the Avellino prison: and we can rightly say that it is also a consequence of the continuous requests in this direction formulated in recent months by SAPPE”.

This was stated by Tiziana Guacci, regional secretary for Campania of the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police, commenting on the statements of the Undersecretary of Justice Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove responding to a question presented by Democrat Toni Ricciardi regarding the need to increase staff and improve safety standards in the Bellizzi Irpino prison in Avellino.

“Yesterday we met with the Undersecretary at the Ministry in Rome, receiving assurances in response to our repeated requests in this regard.”

“Gutta cavat lapidem, the ancients said: literally “the drop pierces the stone””, adds Donato Capece, general secretary of SAPPE. “We hope, as the first Union of the Penitentiary Police Corps, that the next assignments of new Agents will give a first breath of fresh air to the Departments of the penitentiary institutions, some of which are really in difficulty, considering that with the next 3.200 hires it will be possible to do more and better where today the increases are minimal.

We, for our part, will always be "on the ball" so that the Ministry of Justice and DAP adopt immediate interventions to protect the women and men of the Corps serving on the front lines of the detention sections".
