During the trial concerning the murder of the young Francesco Pio Maimone, which took place last March in Naples, significant developments were recorded. In addition to the sentences handed down to some defendants, several acquittals were pronounced “for not having committed the crime” in relation to specific charges contested.

Among the most significant decisions, the acquittal of Giuseppina Valda, sister of Francesco Pio Valda, the main defendant in the case, stands out. The 24-year-old was acquitted because "there was no need to proceed", a formula that indicates the lack of grounds for initiating criminal proceedings against her.
The judges' decision led to the immediate cessation of the precautionary measure to which Giuseppina Valda had been subjected, with consequent release. A similar measure was ordered for Giuseppe Perna, another defendant in the trial.
Last October 29, another friend of Valda, Rosso Sorrentino, was sentenced on appeal to 4 years in prison for his involvement in the affair. Sorrentino is accused of having in his custody the weapon used in the brawl that resulted in the murder of the 18-year-old.
During the trial, the deputy prosecutor of the Naples DDA, Antonella Fratello, had requested life imprisonment (with two years of daytime isolation) for Francesco Pio Valda, believed to be responsible for the murder. For his sister Giuseppina and his uncle Giuseppe Perna had been asked for 8 years in prison respectively.
The requests for the other defendants
The sentencing requests also concerned other defendants: 6 years for the grandmother Giuseppina Niglio, 3 years for Salvatore Mancini and 8 years and 6 months for Pasquale Saiz and Alessandra Clemente, Valda's cousin.
The judicial affair, therefore, is enriched with new developments, with the acquittal of Giuseppina Valda and her release from prison. Attention remains high on the next phases of the trial, which will see the definitive pronouncement on the responsibilities of the other defendants.
