MELBOURNE – The reigning champion Jannik Sinner continues its triumphal run at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the current season on the hard courts of Melbourne Park.

The 23-year-old South Tyrolean, world number one and first seed, authoritatively overcame the 25-year-old Australian Alex De Minaur, number eight in the ATP ranking and seeding, with a clear 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

The match, which lasted just one hour and 48 minutes, saw Sinner dominate in every aspect of the game, dashing the hopes of the host, who was supported by the cheering of the Australian crowd.

In the semifinal, scheduled for Friday, Sinner will face the American Ben Shelton, world number 20 and seeded 21st. Shelton, a rising American tennis talent, earned a spot in the top four thanks to his victory over fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego.
