Benevento – A young man, described as affable and well-mannered, has been reported for defrauding two elderly women in Baselice and San Bartolomeo in Galdo last December. The scam followed a well-known script: an ordinary provincial day interrupted by a frantic phone call, in which the victims were warned that their relatives were involved in legal problems that could only be resolved by paying a large sum of money.
The young man, who in one case presented himself as a friend of a relative and in the other as a carabineer, went to the elderly women's homes to collect the money. With a convincing manner, he gained their trust, taking away almost nine thousand euros in cash and, on one occasion, even some family jewels of inestimable sentimental value.
However, the scammer had not considered the surveillance cameras present in the vicinity of the victims' homes. Thanks to rapid and meticulous investigative work, the Carabinieri of the San Bartolomeo in Galdo and Baselice stations, coordinated by the San Bartolomeo in Galdo company, analyzed the videos, identifying the man thanks to his tattoos and his distinctive physical characteristics.
During the identification operations, the two elderly women recognized the man without hesitation among the mug shots shown to them. The individual, from the Naples area and already known to the police, was reported at liberty to the Judicial Authority for the crime of aggravated fraud, bringing relief and justice to the victims of this deception.
