A year of intense work for the Campania Railway Police Department, committed to ensuring the safety of travellers and infrastructures: in 2024, prevention and control activities achieved significant results in Campania railway stations and on trains.
During the year, the Railway Police identified a total of 455.614 Guests, Of which 67.155 with police records. They have been carried out 83 arrests e 433 complaints in a state of freedom, in addition to the elevation of 869 fines for violations of the Highway Code and railway regulations. Among the administrative and judicial activities, notifications were made 469 measures, while 326 removal orders were issued to individuals involved in illegal activities in the railway sector.
Attention to irregular situations has led to the identification of 443 foreigners, with 21 CPR escorts (Repatriation Detention Centers), 3 immediate repatriations e 3 assisted voluntary repatriations. 2024 saw an increase in on-board train escorts and station patrols, with particular attention to regional and Intercity trains. Extraordinary control services improved safety on the main railway lines.
The phenomenon of copper thefts, often the cause of delays and inconvenience for travellers, has been addressed with over 400 checks at metal collection centers and 500 patrol services of the railway lines. The operation led to the recovery of 5.000 kilos of stolen copper, upon arrest of 3 Guests and to the complaint of 22 individuals, with the identification of 7.640 Guests.
Improving environmental conditions
In collaboration with Grandi Stazioni (FS Group), degraded situations were removed, such as abandoned mattresses and cardboard boxes, especially near Naples Central Station. Daily checks ensured that adequate hygiene and environmental standards were maintained.
Prevention also occurred through education. With the project “Train…to be cool”, the Railway Police operators met 5.000 students during the 2023/2024 school year, raising awareness of safe behavior in the railway sector. The operators were also present at events such as the Comicon and Village of Freedom, meeting overall 9.000 participants, to promote the culture of legality and safety.
