CALVIZZANO – A mural in memory of Giovanbattista Cutolo, a young musician who tragically passed away, will be the heart of a series of initiatives promoted by the mayor of Calvizzano, Giacomo Pirozzi.
The community is preparing to commemorate Cutolo through conferences, events and meetings aimed at raising awareness among students on the issues of legality and the fight against crime.
The initiative is funded by the Fund for Legality and the Protection of Local Administrators Victims of Intimidation, resources that the Municipality of Calvizzano received after Mayor Pirozzi was physically attacked by a citizen.
According to a statement, the mayor had already obtained approval from Daniela Di Maggio, mother of the late Giovanbattista Cutolo, who was killed in Piazza Municipio by a sixteen-year-old with a criminal record during a trivial argument.

Today, with the project's approval from the Regional Council and thanks to resources transferred from the Ministry of the Interior, the foundation is being laid for an educational program for students at the Marco Polo Comprehensive Institute in Calvizzano. The events aim to combat issues such as bullying, petty crime, and youth gangs, involving experts and professionals from the institutions.
Mayor Pirozzi emphasized the urgency of the initiative, citing Naples Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, who highlighted a generational shift in organized crime and a worrying decline in the age of minors involved in criminal acts. "We must intervene to reverse this trend and prevent mafias from recruiting our youth," the mayor stated.
This series of events will not only honor the memory of Giovanbattista Cutolo but will also serve as a warning and educational tool for future generations of Calvizzano.
