Despite an increase in patrols deployed and checks carried out, the numbers speak for themselves: in 2024 there was a downward trend in road accidents and fatalities, a significant result resulting from coordinated and targeted action.
A positive balance
During the year, over 31.000 patrols were engaged in control services on roads and highways, with a total of over 93.000 people checked and over 67.000 violations contested. The fight against speeding was particularly significant, with over 2.300 violations ascertained and thousands of license points deducted.
Attention has also focused on drink-driving and driving under the influence of drugs, with over 44.000 drivers subjected to breathalyser tests and numerous cases of impaired driving.
The new Highway Code
The entry into force of the new Highway Code in December 2024 introduced important innovations aimed at improving road safety. Among the main measures, the introduction of the alcohol-lock and a strengthening of controls on infrastructure and vehicles.
The first data on the application of the new rules confirm a positive trend, with a reduction in accidents. This result is the result of a joint effort by the police and greater awareness on the part of road users.
The 2024 budget for the Campania and Basilicata Highway Police is decidedly positive. The numbers demonstrate a constant commitment to ensuring road safety and combating violations of the Highway Code. The introduction of the new Code and the awareness-raising activities carried out have contributed to improving the situation, but it is essential to continue on this path to achieve even more significant results.
