Campi Flegrei, the Vesuvius Observatory reassures: "Bradyseismic dynamics have not changed since August"

Despite the alarm raised by some experts, the situation at Campi Flegrei does not show significant changes compared to the last few months: this is confirmed by Mauro Di Vito, director of the Vesuvius Observatory of the INGV.

In an interview, Di Vito explained how the area continues to be affected by bradyseismic dynamics with less frequent earthquakes, a stable crustal deformation of about one centimeter and intense degassing, a phenomenon that has been present for years. “There will be more shocks, because the relationship between crustal deformation and seismic events is well known”, he specified, underlining that the constant monitoring, ongoing since 1982-1984, allows us to keep every variation under control.

In the last week, 44 seismic events with a magnitude greater than 0 were recorded, a figure that is in line with the trend observed since August. “You can alternate periods of greater activity with moments of quiet, but today there is nothing different from yesterday or the past few days”, reiterated the director of the Observatory, inviting us to rely on scientific analyses rather than on alarmism.

I read that the situation at Campi Flegrei is stable, but I don't really understand what that means. There have been many earthquakes even if they are less frequent. The deformation of the crust remains at one centimeter and this worries me a bit.
