With the registration of the Court of Auditors and the publication of the decree in the Official Gazette, the operational phase for the repair and seismic requalification of the damaged residential buildings in the Campi Flegrei begins. The announcement was made by the Minister for Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci, who has closely followed the entire affair, which exploded with the concerns of the mayors of the area in the summer of 2023.
“As soon as the Ministry of Economy and Finance assigns the Region Campania the resources allocated as a state contribution, we can actually start with the interventions", Musumeci declared. The decree provides for the allocation of 50 million euros, distributed over the three-year period 2024-2026, for the restoration of the properties declared unfit for habitation in the municipalities of Bacoli, Pozzuoli and Naples, falling within the "intervention area".
The provision defines in detail the operating methods: from the type of fundable interventions to the determination of contributions, through the admissible costs, the presentation and granting of applications, the disbursement of funds and the execution of works. Furthermore, the procedures for the possible revocation, cancellation or forfeiture of contributions and the reporting methods are regulated.
On the transparency and monitoring front, the Municipalities involved will have to report every six months to the Ministry of Economy and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers on the progress of the interventions, providing a detailed account of the funds used.
“This step marks an important moment in restoring safety and dignity to the families affected by the earthquake of May 20,” concluded the minister.
