Capaccio Paestum – An important operation against environmental crimes was conducted by the Forestry Carabinieri of Capaccio Paestum, in collaboration with the Environmental Security Guards Unit Kronos Academy. The military subjected to seizure a large part of a livestock farm dedicated to cattle breeding and milk production, extending over an area of 20.000 square meters.
The company owner was caught in flagrante delicto while illegally disposing of livestock slurry on the surrounding land, causing serious environmental pollution. According to the reconstruction of the investigations, the waste was collected in tanks located in the paddocks of the farm and subsequently pumped into the agricultural land through a submerged system, also contaminating the consortium channels and risking reaching the sea.
The investigative activities, supported by the use of drones and technical surveys, have allowed to document the path of the sewage. The use of fluorescein, a tracer substance, confirmed the illegal dispersion of wastewater also coming from the milking parlor.
Provisions and seizure
At the end of the checks, the military proceeded to contestation of numerous offences according to Legislative Decree 152/2006 (Environmental Code), imposing the preventive seizure of the lands affected by illegal disposal and of the sommersa pomp used for the discharge of sewage.
The seized company, classified as unhealthy class I pursuant to Royal Decree 27 July 1934 n. 1265, hosts hundreds of cattle and was found not to be compliant with current environmental regulations. The operation closes a year of intense activity of prevention and repression of environmental crimes by the Arma dei Carabinieri Forestry and Kronos Academy Association. The investigations will continue to verify any further responsibilities and quantify the environmental damage caused by the illegal management of zootechnical waste.

It is truly incredible that there are still people who behave in this way, disposing of sewage illegally. I hope that the authorities continue to make more frequent checks to prevent similar situations and protect the environment.
