The island of Capri has been isolated since this morning due to a violent sea storm fueled by strong north-east winds that are lashing the Gulf of Naples.
The last sea connections with the blue island date back to yesterday evening, when the hydrofoils and ferries made their last trips before the weather conditions worsened further during the night.
The wind, which intensified during the night hours, made it impossible for any means of transport to depart towards Naples and Sorrento. The situation involves not only the hydrofoils of the NGV, Snav and Alilauro, but also more robust vessels, such as the fast ferry and the slow ship of Caremar, usually able to operate even in rough seas.
This Sunday on the island promises to be without arrivals or departures, with deserted streets and an atmosphere made even more surreal by the incessant sound of the wind and the waves crashing on the coast.
The situation is constantly monitored, but at the moment no improvements are expected in the short term.
